A well-written cover letter should always accompany your resume. This document presents you with a means to reveal your strengths and personality through your writing. When drafting your cover letter, remember:
- Correct grammar and spelling is a must. Although not all employers take the time to read a cover letter, those who do could perceive mistakes as indicators of your quality as a candidate.
- Customize the cover letter to the position for which you are applying. Do not say, "The position appears to fit my skills and experience," unless you also tell them why.
- Use the cover letter to elaborate (albeit briefly) on unique strengths and practical experiences outlined on your resume in order to make a compelling case for the employer to bring you in for an interview
- Keep the letter brief and to the point.
