More Than a Job Description. A Story Worth Telling.

Finding qualified candidates is one thing.

Finding candidates who understand a highly specialized industry, appreciate the culture of the organization, and have the experience to make an immediate impact is something else entirely.

THE CHALLENGE

The right candidate needed to understand more than the job description.

For a global industrial manufacturer previous recruiting partnerships weren't delivering that distinction. The company needed more than resumes. It needed a recruiting partner capable of understanding the business deeply enough to communicate its opportunities accurately and compellingly to the right talent.

That's where Sherpa came in.

The company's hiring needs spanned multiple critical areas of the business, including supply chain, quality, product management and business planning.

But these weren't straightforward searches. The organization operates in a highly specialized manufacturing environment serving the oil and gas industry. Success in these roles requires more than functional expertise. Candidates need to understand complex operations, work across departments, navigate specialized systems and processes, and, perhaps most importantly, anticipate challenges before they become problems.

Previous agency relationships weren't consistently communicating that story.

Candidates were being introduced to positions, but they weren't necessarily getting a clear picture of the business itself: what makes the industry unique, what makes the organization different, and what kind of person can truly succeed there.

The client needed a partner willing to go deeper.

SETTING THE SCENE

Understanding the Business Before Selling the Opportunity

Sherpa approached the relationship differently.

Rather than simply taking a job description and beginning a candidate search, we invested the time to understand what the client actually needed, and what success would look like once the right person was hired.

That distinction mattered.

For one supply chain leadership search, the client wasn't simply looking for someone who understood purchasing, inventory and distribution. The ideal leader needed to balance strategy with execution, understand global sourcing, manage supply-chain risk, work with SAP and integrated planning processes, identify cost-saving opportunities and create a more resilient supply chain.  They needed someone who could "see around the corner."

The same principle carried across the other searches.

For quality leadership, the organization needed someone who could take ownership of audits, quality systems, corrective-action processes and ISO requirements while also coaching inspectors and challenging processes when necessary.

For finance leadership, the need went beyond accounting. The right person needed to understand treasury, forecasting, technology and automation, audit and the broader business, and have the potential to grow into the organization's future CFO.

And across the searches, one characteristic continued to surface:

The client wanted people who were "doers".

That meant Sherpa had to understand not just what these professionals had done on paper, but how they had operated, solved problems, influenced others and created measurable results.

Our recruiters translated that deeper understanding into the candidate conversation.

Instead of simply saying, "Here's the job," we could explain:

Here's the business. Here's what makes it interesting. Here's the challenge. Here's what this person can influence. And here's why your experience could make a difference.

That became the foundation of the partnership.

THE SOLUTION

Five placements. Four months. One recruiting partnership built on understanding.

Once Sherpa understood the business and the type of talent that could succeed within it, the results followed.

Over a four-month period, Sherpa made five direct-hire placements across multiple functions:

Business Planning Process Manager
A critical role focused on business planning and process leadership.

Quality Manager
A leader responsible for strengthening quality processes and supporting operational excellence.

Product Manager
A strategic product-focused hire within the organization's specialized manufacturing environment.

SAP Supply Chain Planning Leader
A specialized supply chain professional bringing the systems and planning expertise the organization needed.

Supply Chain Director
A senior leader tasked with bringing greater strategic thinking, operational balance and forward-looking supply chain leadership to the organization.

And the partnership didn't stop there.

Sherpa is currently working on three additional searches for the organization.

The result is more than a collection of successful placements. It's a relationship built on something that can be difficult to find in recruiting: understanding.

By learning the business, understanding the culture and identifying what separates a technically qualified candidate from someone who can truly succeed in the organization, Sherpa became more than another agency in the hiring process.

We became a recruiting partner the client could trust to tell their story.

The Takeaway

When the business is specialized, the recruiting approach has to be specialized, too.

The best candidates aren't always looking for another job. Sometimes, they need someone to help them understand why this opportunity is different.

That's where the right recruiting partner can make all the difference.

Your Business Is Unique. Your Recruiting Partner Should Understand That.

When your hiring needs require more than a resume search, Sherpa brings the industry knowledge, recruiting expertise and candidate relationships to help you find people who can make an impact.
